NCCN Issues Short-Term Recommendations Specific to COVID
By ION
The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) has issued short-term recommendations specific to issues with COVID-19. This guidance includes neutropenia-related considerations; anemia and erythropoietin-stimulating agent related issues; and thrombocytopenia-related considerations.
Lucio Gordan, MD, Managing Physician and President of Florida Cancer Specialists said, “I applaud NCCN’s initiative of endorsing the more liberal use of myeloid-growth factor support in patients with intermediate-risk of developing neutropenia and neutropenic fever. It makes total clinical sense and will minimize visits to emergency departments and or hospitalizations. This is critically important in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic as we aim to maintain our patients in the safety of their homes.”
